DRY MOUTH. LIQUID WORD.

2022
video-performance

Dry mouth, Liquid word is a vídeo-performance action,
I made for Prima Materia Acts’ show.
It’s composed in two parts. The first one is a video projection of myself dancing the same repetitive movements, to an audio recording of my poem about primal matter, about connection, about fear, about culture, about identity… about war. The second part is the moment when I “leave” the screen and appear on stage singing the last two verses of the poem in my native language, connecting deeply with the audience.

In the video’s audio the sound of a portuguese Adufe, a type of tambourine of Moorish origin, marks the dance rythm. The instrument was played by Rita Dias, who plays in Fio à Meada, a music group of women that sing and interpret tradicional portuguese music.

About Prima Materia Acts:
“In response to the search for prima matter, our team of creative people coming from several countries (Poland, France, Romania, Portugal, Italy, Spain, Czechia, Germany, Switzerland and China), representing various artistic and performance disciplines, from new media, through object art, film, stage-design, choreography and dance who have been working for last months on the collection of art contributions. From those put in specific chronology the two-hour performance was created. We found spaces for cooperation while being together, talking, walking, traversing mountain slopes, forest paths, opening up to yourself mutually, listening to different voices, as part of temporary collectivities. This is why our discoveries in relation to the eponymous matter are multifaceted and intermedial.”
